“It was just a bad proposal, a stupid proposal, actually… done by people that have no clue as to the danger they’re in. Very stupid proposal,” he argued.
Iran’s response included demands for a permanent end to the war on all fronts, compensation for war damages, an end to the U.S. naval blockade, lifting of sanctions on Iran, and the end to a U.S. ban on Iranian oil sales, according to semi-official Tasnim news agency. Iran also wants to maintain control over the Strait of Hormuz after the war ends, Tasnim reported.
Despite the criticism from Washington, Iran has staunchly defended its response.
Esmail Baghaei, spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, described Tehran’s proposal as “reasonable and generous,” while accusing the U.S. of continuing to insist on “unreasonable demands.”
“Our demand is legitimate: demanding an end to the war, lifting the (U.S.) blockade and piracy, and releasing Iranian assets that have been unjustly frozen in banks due to U.S. pressure,” Baghaei said, according to state media.
