A MEDIC showing symptoms of the deadly rat virus is being treated in a specialist hospital in London.
It could be the first case of hantavirus in the UK since the outbreak began.
The healthcare worker was taken to the specialised High Consequence Infectious Diseases unit in Guy’s and St Thomas’s hospital on Saturday.
It comes as nine Brits connected to the MV Hondius cruise ship outbreak are set to arrive in the UK.
The medic was brought to the UK for a “specialist assessment” after developing symptoms, described as a “highly precautionary measure” by the the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA).
The rest of the evacuees from St Helena and Ascension Island could have been exposed to hantavirus but do not have symptoms.
They are expected to arrive in the UK on this evening, UKHSA said.
The Sun contacted the UKSA for comment.
